Fifteen weeks

How far along? Fifteen weeks - 11/26/10

How big is baby?

Next appointment: December 7

Movement: Occasionally! Little flutters and thumps, about two or three times a day. I have to say, I really am excited about those painful rib kicks that will be coming before we know it!

What I'm Looking Forward To: Thanksgiving with my family tomorrow, my next appointment, the boys' birthdays. Oh, and Christmas!! This is my favorite time of year!

Reflections on this week: We had a great Thanksgiving Day with the Alexander family yesterday! It was great to get together and visit (and to EAT lots of yummy food!). The best part: resolving differences with others and working toward good relationships with them. It sure was less crowded without the "elephant in the room" this year!

In other news, my sense of doubt has returned, and I'm still not able to be comfortable with the thought that everything is okay. I have to wait a couple of weeks until we can hear Baby's heartbeat again, and I need that reassurance. I'm just so afraid that something's gone wrong, and I won't have any kind of peace about it for a while. All I can do is hope, because I know that my OB history and statistics are on my side. So, here's hoping that December 7th approaches very quickly!

Fourteen Weeks

How far along? Fourteen weeks! 11/19/10

How big is baby?

Next appointment: December 7

Innie or Outie? Innie!

Sleep: Sometimes. It's been harder this week because of allergies and cranky kiddos.

Cravings: Nothing right now, but it changes every day!

Aversions: Nope!

Symptoms: I think they're finally going away. Hooray!

Movement: I would swear that I felt a couple little fluttery thumps this week! I'll keep you posted.

What I'm Looking Forward To: The weekend, and Thanksgiving next week.

Reflections on this week: Oh, boy. My kids just about killed me this week. I think the weather change has completely screwed them up, because they were terrible! I certainly hope this is temporary, or I'm going to have to move. The most important thing about this week is that I made it to the second trimester! Yay!

Thirteen Weeks

How far along? Thirteen weeks - 11/12/10

How big is baby?

Next appointment: December 7

Maternity clothes: Just pants, for now. I just looooove the "fat" stage.

Sleep: ...is beautiful. Need more pillows, though.

Cravings: Nothing in particular right now. Just hungry!

Aversions: Not too many, actually. Thank goodness. Still not too crazy about sweets. Boo.

Symptoms: I'm a litte tired. I do have three kids, so that could explain why.

Movement: Not quite yet, but I have a feeling it's going to be really soon.

What I'm Looking Forward To: Thanksgiving. Nathan laughed at me when I told him I was already thinking about all the food! Mmmmm...

Reflections on this week: Oh, boy. Two words: stomach virus. I was sick late Monday night, unconscious for 24 hours, and I had to reschedule my OB appointment that I had been waiting for. Frustrating. Anyway, I went on Thursday and had an excellent appointment! Dr. P even gave us a quick peek at our munchkin! The child was jumping around like an over-caffeinated frog, and it totally cracked me up.

Look at the little hand!

Alien baby.

I'm so relieved that we've made it this far. I think we're finally in the clear, and I can start to think about the fact that this is actually going to happen. Maybe I can get excited about it now! It's been hard to bond with this baby, because I kept myself at a distance, just in case something bad happened, so it wouldn't hurt as badly. Now it seems as though everything will be okay. :)

Oh, no. Now we have to start thinking about names again. And it's my turn! Arrrgghh!

Laundry Lament

The act of washing clothing is very, very important in our house. In fact, I do at least one load of laundry every single day in an attempt to keep up with all the clothes-wearing that we do over here. I have no clue how it stacks up so quickly, but you can't turn your back on it or it will multiply further and attack you while you're sleeping.

A couple of months ago, one of our local grocery stores was completely out of the detergent that I prefer to buy. I still had a little left, so I waited another week or two, then went back to that store to attempt to purchase the detergent a second time. No luck. They were still out. I literally could not wash another load of clothing because I had nothing left, so I was forced to settle for something different. Grrrr...

I have sensitive skin, and there are a few things that really give me issues. Perfumes, Band-Aids, some soaps, and - you guessed it - detergents. When I was trying to decide what to buy, I knew which ones to stay away from, but there are so many these days, it's impossible to know for sure what will bother me (I obviously haven't tried all of them). I decided to buy Arm & Hammer. I'm thinking, "It's made with baking soda, no extra fragrances, etc...it should be fine, right?"

Oh, Lord. The first thing I discovered had nothing to do with my skin. Check this out:

Yeah. Nice.

That would be one of my almost brand-new shirts. And, no, that is not just detergent sitting on the fabric, because I tried rinsing it out in the hopes that it was. The color is actually bleached out of my shirt. Let me tell you how excited I was when I pulled that out of the washer. This isn't the only one, either. The count is now up to five of my shirts and one pair of my favorite pants. Some of the boys' clothes were also ruined.

Second problem: a couple of weeks after we returned from our beach vacation in September, I starting itching really badly. My back and my shoulders were the bad spots, so I assumed it had something to do with the horrific sunburn I got on our trip. That's about the same time I noticed that Ethan had a horrible, bumpy rash all down his neck and back, and covering some of his chest. Sure enough, Nicholas had it, too. Zoe has her Daddy's skin, luckily, so neither of them were affected. Three people, scratching away in their bleached-out clothing.

Obviously, I dumped what was left of the detergent and bought some of the old, tried-and-true stuff as quickly as I could. I now face the insanely difficult task of re-washing everything in our entire household. The seasons are changing now, so some of our warm-weather stuff might not get washed right away, which makes it worse. Sheets, towels, blankets, shower curtains, kitchen towels, dishrags, and on and on and on...

So, in conclusion...

Arm & Hammer. I HATE YOU. I will never buy anything else manufactured by you if I can help it. Thank you for ruining my clothing, because you know that I have an overabundance of free time to go and shop for new shirts and pants with my three small children and their extremely-patient-while-Mommy's-in-the-dressing-room behavior. It's totally fine. Also, I really appreciate the way you've caused me to consider tearing off my own flesh for relief because I can't take the itching anymore. Oh, and my children don't mind the burning itch, either. Thanks for asking. Bite me.

Twelve Weeks

How far along? Twelve weeks - 11/5/10

How big is baby?

Next appointment: November 9 - it's only a few days away now!

Maternity clothes: Yeppers. And my pj's whenever I'm not leaving the house.

Sleep: Need more and more of it these days.

Cravings: Nothing in particular.

Aversions: Not too many...this is getting better, finally.

Symptoms: I'm cranky this week, but it could be because my kids are making me crazy.

Movement: Not yet.

What I'm Looking Forward To: My appointment on Tuesday, of course! We should be able to pick up the heartbeat on the doppler. Please let it still be beating!!

Reflections on this week: My second-born was giving me a lot of strife this week. We have issues with one another because he is the total opposite of me. I'm just trying not to lock him in the closet. In other news, Halloween was fun!

The 31st of October

Oh, boy. We had a super busy day! We got started early and stayed out late (well, late for us, anyway). It was fun, though, and I think the kids had a good day.

We reported to church at 8:30 for Ethan's choir rehearsal. The choir was supposed to be singing in the morning service, and this was to be their final run-through. FBC declared Sunday "Hallowed Be Your Name" Day, and opted to celebrate the Lord instead of, well, demons and candy and costumes and stuff. :) Anyway, when it was time for the kids to sing, Ethan just stayed in his seat and cried. I went down to sit with him, and he spent the entire first song clinging to my shirt for dear life, so we ended up just walking out before the choir was finished. Poor kid. Needless to say, we will be most likely be pulling him out of choir, because this is not the first time he's acted this way. He seems really scared of/intimidated by it, and we don't want it to be a source of stress when it's supposed to be fun. So much for entertainment.

After church was over, we drove all the way out to my parents' church for their Harvest Fest. They had hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone with all the trimmings, and tons of fun things for the kiddos. It was, um, a little WARM, but it was fun! The kids got to paint their own little pumpkin, and they loved it. (Thank you, Grammy, for being a smart preschool teacher who is aware that kids need to wear smocks when they paint!)

Ethan wouldn't smile for me at all.
I got this instead...

Cute.

Nicholas seemed to enjoy playing on the playground the most, and we had a hard time keeping him out of there. Once the boys discovered the giant bouncy castle, though, he definitely wanted to leave! Sometime in the middle of all this running and bouncing, Ethan, Granddad, Zoe, Daddy and I went on a hayride. One of the CVBC members had brought a tractor and trailer (covered in hay), and spent the greater part of the afternoon driving groups of people all over the church property. Oh, boy.

It was HOT.

Word of advice: when you're pregnant and you've just devoured a giant hamburger, going on a 30-minute long, super bouncy hayride in temperatures over 90 degrees is NOT a good idea. The poor kids on the trailer almost saw me hurl. Yuck.

While Mommy went into recovery mode, Ethan and Nicky got their faces painted.

Nicholas got a ladybug.

Ethan's request? A gnat. No, I'm not kidding.
The lady that painted it thought it was hilarious.
He wanted "a little black dot" and she added some eyes.

After that, all three of them had lots of fun climbing inside the castle and headbutting one another. Luckily, we managed to leave before anyone sustained an injury. Always a good thing.

I forgot to mention that, during all this time, there were some very talented people providing some awesome music! My grandparents were also there, and they really enjoyed the outdoor concert.

Aren't they sweet?

We headed home (after we peeled the kids away from my parents) to try to get the kids to take a mini-nap before we had to leave home yet again. Why didn't we get to stay home? Well, every year, our church hosts Autumn Family Fest on Halloween evening, and Nathan and I love to go and help out. Also, now that our kids are a little older, they can participate in all the festivities.

Off we go again...

There are lots and lots of different games for the kids to play, and they get treats and toys at every stop. So much more fun than trying to do door-to-door trick-or-treating with three little ones!

Another bouncy castle.

 The duck pond.

Aunt Beth and Zoe.

Daddy was showing Nicky how to jump rope.

Grandma and Grandpa helped the kids "go fishing" for prizes.

Oh, yay! More candy and stuff!

Trying to convince Zoe to attack the giant pumpkin with a beanbag.

Finding the lost coin in the sand.
They really liked this one a lot!

There was also face painting, food, balloons, a dunking booth, and some awesome live music from our own praise band. So much fun!

Nicky kept asking for more and more paint, and Ms. Julie just kept painting!
She's so sweet.

Ethan getting his hand painted.

A frog!

Measles?

Ethan was trying to decide what he wanted.
He ended up with an orange sword.

Zoe's pink poodle.

We took the kids inside the church to play for a while, and Nathan and I went to find someplace we could be helpful. We ended up helping with the basketball game, and I'm pleased to report that I did not get creamed in the head by any stray shots, although there were a couple of close calls. It was really fun to hang out with Kathleen (who cracked me up the whole time), and watch Nathan playing basketball with the kids.

We finally got home and got the kids into bed at about 9:30-ish. We were all soooooo tired. It was a good day, though!

Nine - Eleven weeks

How far along? Nine weeks - 10/15/10

How big is baby? An olive

Next appointment: November 9

Maternity clothes: Not yet, but it's getting really close. Maybe next week.

Sleep: Ahhhh...yes. I love sleeping. So far, no issues with that!

Cravings: Salty stuff and sour stuff. Green apples seem to be the most consistent craving.

Aversions: Sweets. Bummer.

Symptoms: Food aversions, moodiness, mild nausea.

Movement: Not yet.

What I'm Looking Forward To: More energy, less queasiness, my next appointment!

Reflections on this week: Tuesday was the best day, because we discovered that this baby is alive and well! The other highlight was Thursday morning when we told the kids about the baby. Ethan is the most excited...he can't wait! He thinks it's going to be a boy, and Nicholas thinks it's a girl. We shall see!

How big is baby? A prune

Next appointment:  November 9

Maternity clothes: Oooh...getting close. I pulled the box out of the closet and opened it. :)

Symptoms: Nausea and food aversions are getting a little better, but they're not completely gone yet.

Movement: Not yet!

What I'm Looking Forward To: Tomorrow. We're heading to the Houston Zoo for the first time! They have a dinosaur exhibit there through the end of October, and the boys are so excited! Also, they're doing the Zoo Boo right now, so we should have lots of Halloween fun!

Reflections on this week: This was a BAD week. Nothing to do with the baby, really, but it was just bad. I need a mini-vacation.

Next appointment: November 9

Maternity clothes: Yep. I had to cave and start wearing the stretchy pants. Much better.

What I'm Looking Forward To: Grrrr...November 9! It would be nice to go check to make sure the poor child is still in there and still alive. I hate waiting when I'm so nervous.

Reflections on this week: I had a couple of accident-prone days this week, coupled with a major anxiety attack last weekend. Other than that, it wasn't too bad.
