Life is Beachy! Part Two

The clouds finally broke at about 6:45 the next morning.

We were able to go down to the beach a little while later, when it stopped sprinkling. After about thirty minutes or so, the sun came out, and you never would have known that it was pouring rain the entire night. So weird. That's Texas weather for you.

This was Anna's first time to be at the beach, and to be in any water other than the bathtub!
She seemed to really like it!

We were expecting her to cry or be overwhelmed, but she was fine!

She was grabbing the sand and playing with it.
Thankfully, she didn't try to eat it.
Maybe next year.

Even the waves didn't bother her!

Nathan decided to go fishing with a plastic basket.
For jellyfish.
I hate jellyfish.

Run away!!

Anna started to get a little cranky after we'd been out there for a while, so I took her back to our room for a quick bath, and then she wanted to take a nap. So, the end of our morning beach adventure looked like this:

Yes, I know that babies are not supposed to sleep in Boppy pillows.
I'm a terrible mother. Call CPS.

Later that day, we did a little shopping at some of the nearby tourist-y places. Just your usual assortment of ugly shell sculptures and wind chimes, accompanied by hundreds of magnets, bottle openers and overpriced toys. You're required to buy something dumb when you go to the beach, in case you didn't know.

Zoe loved looking at all the shells and things.

Plastic animals.
That's just what we need, because we don't have any at our house.

Checking out the starfish.

There are those magnets I was telling you about!

Anna was upset about sitting in the stroller, but once I got her out, she really liked looking at the wind chimes and things.

After shopping for a couple of hours, we went back to the hotel to cool off for a while. Anna took another nap, and Grammy tried to get the other three to rest for a bit (no such luck). Towards evening, we decided to give Blackbeard's a try for dinner. I'd never been there, but Dad recommended it. It's supposedly haunted.  Ooooooooohhh...

I'm not sure about the haunting, but it has a decent atmosphere. Lots of pirate paraphernalia, fish, and whatnot. Also, the bar area has turned into a place for some pretty cool things, like a guitar signed by Eric Clapton and all that.

 Ha ha ha ha!

Granddad and Nicky, waiting for food.

Daddy and Zoe.

So, was it good? Well, I'm not sure. It wasn't horrible. I ordered crab cakes. I mean, hello, we're at the beach, I'm totally going to get seafood, right? They were definitely huge (think hamburger-sized), so I got a lot of food. The texture, however, reminded me of what I think wallpaper paste might be like if I tried to eat it. Also, the flavor was a little...odd. I seriously love crab, so I was disappointed. I don't know, maybe I haven't had enough crab cakes to accurately judge. They were okay. Nathan tried some and he wasn't impressed, either. Anyway, it was an interesting experience, if nothing else.

We went back to the hotel, got settled for the night, and went to sleep. Oh, and that reminds me. Sleep Number beds can bite my booty. Those are the most uncomfortable mattresses on which I've ever slept. Nathan and I felt like we were falling off the bed for half the night (major slope), and the other half was spent trying to avoid the hump in the middle. We did discover, after some fun with the remote control, that you can shift the air from one side to another when the numbers are set really low. We "accidentally" learned that if one person jumps on one side of the bed, the person on the other side can actually catch air, like on a trampoline. All in the name of better bed research, people. :)

Anyway, stay tuned for Part Three...
